As President & CEO of Tangram Insurance Services, Rekha has the privilege of building an independently owned, privately held insurance company on her terms. Tangram is a specialty intermediary that offers the underwriting and management of niche programs, complex reinsurance placement and retail brokerage distribution.
Under Rekha’s leadership, Tangram has experienced accelerated financial growth and cultural transformation over the last 15 years. With a majority female executive team and staff that includes veterans and minorities, she proudly leads a company that is challenging the status quo of the insurance industry.
Through underwriting expertise, profitable portfolios of business, technology expansion, right-sized distribution, data-driven decision making, and perhaps most importantly, recruiting and retaining outstanding talent – Tangram continues to gain recognition as one of the best in program business.
Rekha’s mission is to help people see the variety of opportunities available in the insurance industry and empower them to create their own successful career path. This is particularly important for women and minorities, since diversity in the industry will ultimately benefit the whole.
A first-generation Sri Lankan-American and graduate of Boston University, Rekha is a mother, a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), a founder of Women of Influence, a member of the Insurance Supper Club, and a Board Director for a prominent Bay Area nonprofit serving 50,000 kids. Rekha has been invited to speak at multiple industry conferences and is the recipient of numerous awards – including IBA’s Global 100 and Elite Women and the prestigious Business Insurance Women to Watch.
Rekha is passionate about telling her story. She hopes it inspires conscious leadership, substantive conversations to spark progress, and a roadmap on how to gain ground in this industry for those looking to make an impact. In other pursuits, she enjoys traveling to far-off places, and getting lost in a great book with a stiff cocktail in hand.
